We were welcomed and shown to a table upstairs. Beautiful view of the sea, however the walls were tatty - peeling selotape half hanging off the walls is not a good look. Waitress was surly, didn't smile and had attitude. Food was bland and my potatoes which accompanied the fish I ordered were undercooked. The food is definitely overpriced and represents poor value for money. We won't be back.

Nice location. Food looked nice but uninspiring. Overated by Guardian readers

I guess I must be a Guardian reader (see above) because I think Due South's ace! Have been here for two lunches - one just passing before it was famous, when we had what was probably the best fish soup I've ever had, and the other to mark our fifth wedding anniversary, when we blew out in style from the (rather over-heated) vantage point of the upstairs window table. The service was fantastic on both occasions, the food was wonderful (my crab was virtually scuttling about it was so fresh) and the wine - chosen for us by our knowledgeable waitress - was perfect. Could be a bit cheaper but that's probably just the Guardian reader talking...

This is a real gem- best restaurant on the South Coast as far as I'm concerned. I've been numerous times since it opened a few summers ago and it has never disappointed me. The food is always ultra fresh with a real bias towards organic produce from within Sussex. The selection of fish and seafood is exceptional, veggie options are always interesting, and the wine list is a thoughtful mixture of English and European wines. As I say, a real gem.

This is the first restaurant I've ever visited where I've been called a liar to my face within a second of speaking to a waiter. This review is based on two visits. The first time the waiter was helpful and offered to allow us to sit in the entrance instead of outside with our dog because it was cold. The second time I asked a different waiter - a sort of Cat Stevens lookalike - if we could sit in there again. 'Not with the dog, man,' he said. I said we'd been allowed to sit there before and he said 'no you haven't'. I said that I must have been hallucinating the previous visit but I got the idea that a word of five syllables threw him a little. Then the service actually got worse. Not content with calling me a liar and addressing me like one of his hippy stoner mates, he sauntered off in a cloud of self regard to fetch our drinks. When he returned he sat at our table to take the order. I don't want an extra friend at our meal, I want a vaguely courteous person with a pad who will record what I want and bring it. On the menu they offer something called 'chickin'. I decided that if they couldn't spell a dish they were unlikely to be able to cook it and we left for somewhere else. When we asked for the bill for the drinks the waiter flounced off in a resentful silence with the strong implication we'd been wasting his time. The best thing about this place is its location and its look from the outside. The food we had on our first visit was OK but vastly overpriced. It's really no better than you get at an average gastropub, but 40 per cent more expensive. The attitude of this waiter stank; he clearly believes serving people is rather below him. He should take a lesson from the people who run the fish and chips place down the way. They seem happy to do their jobs. The food there is nicer and it costs under a fiver a head.

We came for dinner last night and it was a really nice time for me and my friends the service and the food were impeccable. The staff were really helpfull and not intrusive with and very knowledgeable about the dishes. For the most interresting part, the food was sublime, I had their scallops and pease pudding for a starter and for a main course a medley of pork which was great my sweet was a chocolate pudding kind off creamy in the middle. What a treat!!! I will be bringing more friends to Due south it was the best evening i had for a long time in a restaurant, keep the good work
