The Menu Review Latest Reviews http://www.menureview.co.uk Zizzi by Demro - 1/10 Now this was the worst food i have ever tasted. No offence but its crap. it tasted like you had just shat it out and slopped it on a dirty grimmy plate. And the chairs..dont even get me started. Everytime i farted the chair runmled and broke. i used about 10 chairs in an hour. i think they should think more about the customers when they blow off. or should i say FART. so lets face the facts... your restaurant is SHIT. thank you. and goodnight on 2008-07-18 09:30:37 http://www.menureview.co.uk/247.html Wokmania by Demro - 10/10 WE LOVED IT SO MUCH. A large group that pre-booked a table for 9pm arrived on time, but their table was not ready. They were told it would be around 10 minutes, so they settled at the bar for a drink while waiting. 20 minutes later they enquired about their table being ready and once again were told 10 minutes. Another 30 minutes later, they were finally seated at 10pm, one hour later than booked. When they enquired about a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience, they were brought some olives and bread! At the end of their meal an argument erupted, whereby the group asked for the service charge to be removed because they were naturally unhappy to have to pay this given the above. The manager launched into a rage, insulting the lead customer whose Birthday it appears to have been by saying “I thought you were more of a gentleman than that’’ in earshot of all other customers including ourselves!!! Instead of apologising and appreciating that it was their right to refuse to have to pay this if they so wished, he demonstrated an almost stereotypical Italian ‘Godfather’ approach by shouting to them to get out of his restaurant! The group appeared to be professionals, well presented and at no time were they rowdy. In fact one of the waiters got upset (obviously the service tip is the only payment he gets) and had to be restrained. I have never seen anything like it and the food was not that great for the price either! My whitebait was covered in breadcrumbs when it should have been flour and the pasta was nothing special, just a simple tom sauce you plonk on from a supermarket. This place seems to get all the hen and stag bookings, guaranteeing business and so they don’t care about professionalism and standards towards their local customers. on 2008-07-01 17:12:48 http://www.menureview.co.uk/10.html Havana by jules1970 - 10/10 really excellent food, try the chicken on curry and apricot bread, simply superb. The service was rushed (our pizzas which came out literally seconds after our starter had been taken away, was over cook, the crust was inedible and had obviously been in the oven some time) and towards the end of the meal they stood around yawning, folding there arms and generally making us feel uncomfortable. Then they tried to trick us into tipping twice by adding 10% service charge to the bill and then the card machine asked if I wanted to give a gratuity. When I told the waitress I would be paying the service charge in cash and asked her to remove if from the bill she had to check with the manager and then came back and asked for the £5.38 service charge. I told her as it was a tip I would leave what ever I wanted, she then told me it states in their menu that the service charge was compulsory. She brought a colleague over and I explained why we were not happy with the service and he then blamed us for not having told them sooner. I had originally intended to leave a few pounds tip, but after all this I left nothing at all – and I told them so. Without a doubt the worst service in Brighton and Hove, some of our food was good but all of it was over priced. Be warned. on 2008-04-18 13:52:13 http://www.menureview.co.uk/106.html Aberdeen Steak House by Heike - 1/10 Did you know that this company pimps out their staff to the customer by keeping 22% of all tips? Incredible! This is to substitute their sub-standard wages. I reckon we should vote with our feet instantly and not support a ruthless practise. Do not eat at the Real Eating Company until they treat their staff better than their produce. on 2008-04-18 13:40:24 http://www.menureview.co.uk/30.html Agra Restaurant by kieranbrennan - 9/10 Living in Brighton for a year now after moving down from London where we had a magnificent chioce of Indian/Bangledeshi eateries, this is the ONLY Curry house that I have found in the central Brighton area worth eating in - (I have not tried Hove yet) Saying that it is one of the best I have tried anywhere. Different dishes than most and Indian rather than Bangledeshi, which makes a change on 2008-03-08 18:17:40 http://www.menureview.co.uk/31.html Donatello by kieranbrennan - 5/10 Hit and miss been there a few times for lunch and busy but OK food - went one Saturday evening were kept waiting for 40 minutes, other groups of the same size, 3 people, were continuously seated before us - manager totally indifferent and when the above happened for the third time and we complained we were told "we do not need your custom" This was a restaurant we sent many Brighton visitors to, but alas, no longer on 2008-03-08 18:09:27 http://www.menureview.co.uk/54.html Las Iguanas by Dane - 10/10 I recently visited Las Iguanas with a group of girlfriends on a busy Saturday night. The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. The table was booked at 6.45 so we came a bit earlier and had some of the two for one cocktails at the bar, before being seated in a large booth next to another party. Our waitress was brilliant, had good knowledge of the menu and was happy to explain some of the ingredients in a few dishes that were unfamiliar, as we had a gluten free friend with us, and suggested some of her favourites for the rest of us to try. The food was delicious, well presented and massive portions. The lighting, the decor, the music and the staff gave us a real experience and I would definately recommend this restaurant to friends in the future. on 2008-02-28 14:21:27 http://www.menureview.co.uk/187.html Buddies by PAULDYOS - 8/10 GOOD SIMPLE FOOD AT A GOOD PRICE FRIENDS STAYED OVER AT THE GRAPEVINE HOTEL WE ATE HERE TWO NIGHT ON THE TROT WHAT MORE CAN WE SAY BUT THANKS FOR A GREAT WEEKEND. on 2008-02-24 23:13:46 http://www.menureview.co.uk/50.html Fat Leo's by ruth - 9/10 Another good Italian in Brighton, and i believe to be a sister to the famous Donatello. No-one comes to see if your meal is okay ? No one comes to see if you would like a desert (choice of 1 ) Half menu crossed off, staff not bothered whether we came back or not ?? Its a shame as the food was nice but would not go back after such poor service. All the ingrediants, Sauces and spices are there, pick up a recipe and away you go. Unless you are more adventurous then experiment on your own. the dessert is a chocoholics dream. choclate fondue with a choice of turkish delight, profiteroles, marsh mallows or fruit, or just be plain greedy and have all four! The prices have gone up, hence my value for money marking being so low as i think it is too expensive, but they do a half price deal before 6pm during the week. on 2008-01-07 23:07:36 http://www.menureview.co.uk/58.html Taurus Steak House by Micheley1101 - 7/10 Nice steak, decent size meal. Yummy Mummies, pretentous folk who think this style of food and service is new to Brighton. Kensington gardens and North Laines has loads of fresh food, health food cafes. This feels false. Had trouble with manager twice who I found quite rude and offensive and complained about my very well behaved daughter. Quite out of order and spoilt the rather poor quality meal. The food was dreadful , badly cooked or burnt or worse still frozen. The wine list bore no resemblence to the wine they had for sale and they appeared to have only one of each bottle - not good for a party of six. Table mats were laminated pictures of the managers children - dangerous if hot dishes come into contact with the laminate - but not to worry cos the plates and dishes were all stone cold! The whole place was sad, tired and grubby. The waitress did her level best but she still had to keep bringing out the dreadful food to us and making excuses for it. I would rather starve than eat in Momma Cherris again. It was even more upsetting because this was the only evening that six friends could get together before christmas and it was a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. on 2007-12-18 13:11:31 http://www.menureview.co.uk/64.html Momma Cherri's Soul Food Shack by markreilly - 5/10 After seeing the restaurant on tv of course I wanted to visit. We tried on many occasions but could never get a table, a good sign that made me want to go more! A bunch of friends were due to come down to meet up before christmas so I booked a table well in advance and struck lucky, so I thought! The waiter there was brilliant and very helpful. They only had 5 white wines to choose from and 3 of those were sold out! The starter came, buffalo wings and that was gorgeous! While we were waiting for our main, an hour! we saw the specials board and my friends all liked the sound of the ferrero rocher cake. The main came, I had blackened catfish, bland and boring and i asked for no onions in the rice and guess what, ONIONS! The waiter who was very good offered us a free desert to say sorry, my partner ordered the rocher dish to be told it was out of stock! We were all very dissapointed to say the least, poor food, nice staff. on 2007-12-16 09:46:25 http://www.menureview.co.uk/64.html Sukhothai Palace by mickd - 10/10 By far the best Thai restaurant in Brighton. The food is always done to perfection and is full of flavour. The panaeng curry is a regular favourite and the sea bass with chilli and lime is wonderful for a special treat. Service is great too - always made to feel at home even when coming in for the £5 lunch. Lovely place - definitely worth a visit. on 2007-12-09 22:18:38 http://www.menureview.co.uk/72.html Thai Spice by mickd - 6/10 Lovely staff - very friendly and really wanted us to have a great meal. Unfortunately the food was a let down. The Tom yum soup lacked any real flavour and had none of the bite this soup should have. The green curry was not hot at all - we did not want very spicy but we expected some more flavour. Prices are good but the quality needs to get better - there is a lot of competition in the area. on 2007-12-09 22:07:57 http://www.menureview.co.uk/85.html Wagamama by bobajob - 2/10 Naff. The format of this restaurant is an attempt to conceal the completely bland and uninspired food. All part of the Wagamama machine. I urge you not to eat in this place, go and find a local independant eatery and give them your money. Wagamama serve up processed cr*p and intensively farmed cheap meat. The staff were really helpfull and not intrusive with and very knowledgeable about the dishes. For the most interresting part, the food was sublime, I had their scallops and pease pudding for a starter and for a main course a medley of pork which was great my sweet was a chocolate pudding kind off creamy in the middle. What a treat!!!
