From the Argus: Co-owner Peter Lee and business partner Phillip Bosco have created a safe haven - tasty, cheap and very cheerful. No frills, yet special. Painted a warm terracotta brown with bold and interesting Aztec designs on each wall and candles on every table, Chimichangas has a relaxed, cosy, welcoming atmosphere. It's the perfect place to take some mates, bring some booze (Chimichangas is not licensed to sell alcohol but by all means bring your own) and enjoy a meal. At Chimichangas, the menu is simple but varied with plenty of options for veggies. Service is fast, friendly and accommodating and, if you prefer to eat at home, a delivery service is an option, too. Enjoy a plate of tortilla chips with salsa and sour cream (£1), quesadillas (toasted tortillas filled with cheese and mushroom, £2.95) or fried-potato tacos (with chorizo or red pepper, served with guacomole, £3.25) before tucking into burritos (warmed flour tortillas filled with beans, chicken, beef or veg from £5.95), chilli con carne (£5.95) or chicken fajitas (£6.95). A spicy veg chilli is also on offer (£4.95). Appealing to all those chilli-heads who yearn for the burn, the spice factor ranges from mild to very hot. More unfamiliar but traditional Mexican dishes featured are chile relleno (green pepper stuffed with veg and cheese, coated in egg batter and baked in tomato sauce served with rice, £6.25) and pork tinga (diced pork in a smoky tomato and chilli sauce, served with rice, £6.25). Two styles of Mexican breakfast are also on offer earlier in the day. Mexican One consists of scrambled eggs, chorizo, tortillas and coffee (£3.75), while Mexican Two consists of refried beans, fried eggs and enchilada sauce on warmed tortillas (£3.75). A traditional English cooked breakfast is also available (£3.75). For afters, enjoy a hot, frothy chocolate or a freshly-ground coffee with a deliciously different Mexican dessert such as churros (toasted cake with honey or sweet chilli dip), bunuelos (fried donuts with a selection of dips) or sopaipillas - aka stand-up chocolate, chocolate so thick you can stand your spoon up in it, all £2.50. By the time summer arrives, promises Peter, up to 35 customers will be able to sit back and relax outside in the garden. Review by Xenia Gregoriadis
